New Generation Heat Pumps When a BHP customer purchases an efficient electric heat pump, BHP will give the customer cash rebates based on the size of the unit and on the energy efficiency rating (SEER). A heat pump is a highly efficient, year-round home heating-and-cooling system that runs entirely on electricity. The system is called a heat pump because it "pumps" or moves heat from where it is not needed to where it is needed. An electric heat pump works on the same general principle as a room window air conditioner, which is a type of heat pump. If you could reverse the cycle, the air conditioner would pump heat from the outside air into the room. This is exactly how a heat pump operates. In summer it pumps heat out of the house; in winter it reverses the cycle and pumps heat from the outside air into the house. Please review BHP's Rebate Schedule to determine the rebate available for your Air-Source, Water-Source or Geothermal Heat Pump.
