So You're Building . . .
Building a new home or remodeling your
present home is an exciting venture, and challenging. You
want to make sure everything is planned out properly from
the beginning, so make sure your home energy strategy is right
on target...
Plan ahead for savings.
Make sure your home is adequately insulated,
that windows are energy efficient, and that the home is sited
for maximum solar benefit. Good
lighting can also provide much enjoyment and
value to your home. Discuss contemporary lighting options
with your designer or contractor: interior, exterior, and
security lighting. And make sure you're getting energy-saving
equipment.
What are your
heating plans?
There are many electric home heating options
available to you. One in particular you'll want to explore
is the New Generation Heat
Pump. When building a new home you have an opportunity
to take advantage of the Geothermal
System efficiency from the start and experience
dramatic savings on your total energy costs.
If your floor plan is complex, you may
want to consider the ease of installing electric resistance
heat (Baseboard,
Cove, or Ceiling
radiant). It will give you independent temperature
control in hard to heat rooms or new additions to your existing
home.
Portable
space heaters are an economical supplemental
heating source, and don't be fooled by fireplaces
and woodburning stoves -- they may raise energy
costs!
To
ensure that your heating and cooling system will be properly
sized, you may want to have us perform a Heat
Loss/Heat Gain Analysis on your set of plans. This
analysis will be performed free for BHP customers. Non-BHP
customers will be charged a $99.95 fee. This will provide all
the information that is needed by your contractor to install
a custom-fit system for your home. We can also give you a
utility cost analysis that will compare all different types
of heating and cooling systems -- natural gas, propane and
electric -- so that you can see what you will be paying in
heating and cooling costs. There are a lot of options, make
sure you know the facts Cost
Comparison.
What about cooling?
You're probably making plans for air
conditioning in your home, and that's great!
But you may want to consider a high efficiency air conditioning
system or consider cooling your home with the New
Generation Heat Pump. The heat pump will cool
your home efficiently during hot periods. It will also heat
your home when it's cold, taking a load off your furnace.
Take Care!
If you're doing some (or all) of the work
yourself, please take care around overhead and underground
power lines. And when installing wiring, make sure you get
help from a qualified electrician. Electrical work should
be left to the PROS!
