Info
Although we are still young in years, our history
includes electric properties which originated in the days of the
prospectors, the faro dealers and the dance hall girls. It goes
back to the days when Deadwood Gulch was a lusty, drawling, rip-roaring
mining town, back to the days of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok.
Black
Hills Power, a corporation organized and existing under
the laws of the State of South Dakota, was incorporated on August
24, 1941. At this time we had small generating plants all over the
Black Hills which supplied power to our fast growing territory.
These plants are now all closed.
Since 1941 our growth has been steady and continuous.
Our sales of electric energy have increased by more than twelve
times, the number of electric customers served has more than doubled,
and the average cost per kilowatt hour to our customers has decreased
nearly 33 percent.
The Director of Power Generation is Vern Schild.
He can be reached at (307) 682-3771 or vschild@bhgen.com.
