The management changes at Rapid City were announced by Larry Owen, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Black Hills Corporation. Hoyt replaces Daniel Landguth, who will become president of the Black Hills Corporation. Owen will continue as chairman and chief executive officer of the corporation. "Black Hills Corporation is an excellent company from any standpoint," Hoyt said. He said their senior management team and other officers are extremely talented and capable. "Their business decisions are based on solid principles and good business judgement," he said. "They have a genuine concern for their customers and their employee group." Hoyt said the Black Hills board of directors is experienced and effective in determining policy and direction for the company. He continued: "As a result, Black Hills Corporation is considered a model for successful diversification for other utilities which are just beginning their diversification efforts." He said the Black Hills employee group is bright and productive. "They exemplify the South Dakota work ethic," he said. "Black Hills Corporation is a dynamic and exciting business environment, and I feel very fortunate to have been invited to join the BHC management team." He admits, though, that it's difficult to leave his hometown and his many friends and associates at Northwestern Public Service. He said, "There are a lot of people who are working hard to keep Huron moving forward. I hope that they don't get discouraged because their efforts are absolutely essential if Huron is to remain a vital part of eastern South Dakota. "I wish them well," he added. Hoyt joined NWPS as a corporate attorney in 1973 and was appointed corporate secretary and assistant secretary in 1974. He was elected vice president legal in 1976 and promoted to senior vice president in 1985. A 1957 graduate of Huron High School, Hoyt graduated from South Dakota School of Mines in 1961. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1962-64 and was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant and commanding officer of Company C, 87th Battalion at Fort Belvoir, VA. He also spent four years with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and received a law degree from the University of South Dakota in 1969 where he graduated magna cum laude. He is a former member of Greater Huron Development Corporation, served on chamber of commerce committees and is a Sertoman. He was one of the incorporators of Little League baseball in Huron and currently is serving as chairman of the executive committee studying the feasibility of a health and recreational center for the community. Hoyt has two sons, John, a Health Systems engineer in Phoenix, AZ, and James, a 1989 graduate of the University of South Dakota Medical School who is now interning in Minneapolis. His mother, Susie, lives in Huron. By ROGER KASA, Plainsman Managing Edit |
