About
BHP
Black Hills Power has been delivering energy for over 125 years. It was formed through the consolidation of several smaller electric suppliers in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Black Hills Power is an investor-owned utility and is part of the Black Hills Corporation family. The utility serves 63,500 customers in 20 communities located in Western South Dakota, Northern Wyoming, and Southeastern Montana.
Our customers use 1,501,805,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity at an average price of $0.0714 per kWh. Cost containment efforts and customer load growth have provided our customers with stable residential electricity costs and our commercial electricity costs that are declining in real terms, and have remained stable for the last 11 years.
BHP employs over 350 people in its 9
District Offices and five electric power plants.
BHP is dedicated to environmentally sound energy
generation. All BHP plants are fueled by low-sulphur Wyoming coal,
mined by Wyodak
Resource Development Corp., a subsidiary of Black Hills
Corporation, near Gillette, Wyoming. An on-going process of reclamation
at the mine restores the land to its original condition.
Successful efforts have been made over the years
to modify older power plants to meet stricter environmental standards,
and new plants, such as Neil Simpson Station II, have been constructed
with state-of-the-art equipment.
BHP's District Offices are always available
to answer and assist our customers or guests in the communities
they serve. With qualified employees to handle any challenge in
the energy field, we offer a variety of services and incentives
to the customers we serve.
BHP also offers professionals in heating and
cooling technology, along with other services in the energy resource
area. Our Marketing and Sales Group can answer or assist you in
competitive electric rates, cost comparisons, power quality, energy
